Question by christiandadosky: how many statues of liberty are there altogether?

I looked up the Statue of Liberty of Google Images and a saw one that just showed her head, another of her behind the Eiffel Tower, and the one in New York. Just curious, but how many Statues of Liberty are there altogether?

Was there a historical period during which the arms and faces of statues in European churches were destroyed?   2 comments

Question by Julie R: Was there a historical period during which the arms and faces of statues in European churches were destroyed?

I have some vague recollection of seeing lots of statues on the facades of European (maybe French?) churches that were destroyed. It wasn’t the usual structural weakness of limbs or noses or other protrusions that caused the damage. I must’ve been told something by a tour guide, but I just can’t remember the details. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Could statues have been systematically vandalized during the French Revolution or something similar? Or was it in another country during the Reformation? Would appreciate any clues you might have.

Does anyone have a list of all of the statues on the IU Bloomington campus?   no comments

Question by Tommy: Does anyone have a list of all of the statues on the IU Bloomington campus?

I have to take a picture of all of the statues on the IU Bloomington campus as part of a pledge process. I don’t want to miss any, but I can’t find a definitive list anywhere. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Normally, a university has an office or part of the museum or art department that keeps track of all the art donated to or purchased by the school. Whether they have it listed in a form that they can give you is another question. The quickest way is to call the Office of the President and ask what office keeps track of school owned art work. I tracked down two paintings by my great aunt at Iowa State this way.
